The efficient enzymatic saccharification of inexpensive agro wastes as substrates, using cellulase enzyme from
Penicillium crustosum was investigated. Onion peel, sugar beet peel, carrot peel and potato peel were used as
substrates for bioethanol production. The P. crustosum was cultivated by submerged fermentation on these
substrates for 14, 21 and 28 days. The fermented product was extracted by primary distillation process at 78°C
and the fraction was collected. Saccharomyces cerevisiae served as fermenting organism. Simultaneous
saccharification and fermentation process yielded maximum ethanol in the substrate sugar beet peel 15.79% at 28th
day and further confirmed by gas chromatography and the yield of ethanol obtained on 28th day (same period as
above) was 17.5%. |
