dc.description.abstract The rapid increase of the interest for renewable green energy has led energy industry and environmental groups to invest in net metering. This interest in driven by the simplicity in the management of net metering and the low cost that encourage the investment in renewable energy technologies. PV solar energy producers currently rely on utility company meters to find out how much energy they consume and how much energy they export to the grid and the billing depends on utility companies. However, by using internet of things, utility customers are able to record the real time data of their energy production, consumption and what they export to the grid. There is a need for the IoT based monitoring system for both utilities and customers where data collection on electricity consumed by the customer and electricity exported to the grid is required. This study proposes an IoT Based Net Metering monitoring system that will enable the PV Solar energy customers to be able to monitor how much energy they produce, how much they consume and how much they export to the grid. Real time data analysis will allow them make future decisions. en_US
