Abstract:
The on-grid PV system prosumer generates and consumes the electricity either from the selfgenerated electricity or from the utility grid. This research studied and analyzed the feasibility of grid connected PV system prosumers in Rwanda by focusing on the modern village either grouped or ungrouped prosumers. Both residential, commercial and industrial prosumers feasibility were analyzed. The modern villages in Rwanda were selected for this study since their roofs of houses are rigid to support PV modules and the prosumers can group together and invest in photovoltaic system at the same time as a business model and lower the payback period as well as the LCOE. According to simulated and analyzed models, a customer who consumes more than 15kWh/month should invest in PV system and become prosumer. The results showed the commercial and industrial prosumers have high self-consumption compared to residential prosumer where the electricity is consumed not more than 0.09$/kWh LCOE rather than grid tariff of 0.22$/kWh.
