dc.description.abstract In the last few years there has been significant growth in using video surveillance in different areas (in telecommunication companies, in public and private institutions, in super markets, in schools, in the roads, in banks, etc...) and also in military applications mostly for security purpose.Huge amount of surveillance video data is accumulated and it needs to be controlled in the way to extract only the eventful (important) segment or an object of interest.In this study, an algorithm forSpeed Detection of moving cars with Automatic Number Plate Recognition capabilities is presented. We focus our attention to design a system that automatically detect over-speed of cars in movement and report number plate of a vehicle astheabnormal event of the moving object in Video sequences. Our algorithm consists of five major parts: object detection, object classification, object tracking, speed calculation and abnormal identity recognition (number plate) en_US
