Smart agriculture and Internet of Things technologies have become the key points for many intelligent decision-making applications to support agriculture experts and farmers, especially for crop pest management. This is due to the fact that the current storing system is done manually, and chemical pesticides are used to kill weevils inside the storages, which are extremely hazardous to human life, this is due to a lack of suitable grain storage structures and storage management technologies. For this reason, there is a pressing need to use advanced technology for prevention and detection of weevils in cereal grains storage. The aims of this thesis, thus is to develop an IoT-based weevil’s prevention and detection system that prevent and detect the weevils in cereals remotely using smart sensors. The system contains sensors and actuator to prevent the weevils to develop in the cereals storage. It uses others sensors to detect the weevils and once, the weevils are detected the system will automatically spray the chemical pesticides to kill them. The system will continuously be providing information about the on- going conditions of the stored grain; any time abnormal conditions are detected in the storage; an alert is send and SMS in realtime through the mobile phone of the farmer. This automated system will save the farmer's time. Lastly the system will help to increase the Growth Domestic production (GDP) and promote made in Rwanda from cereal’s |
