dc.description.abstract Due to its dynamic character, the electric power system frequently experiences disruptions. Additionally, high power quality is a significant challenge because there are more nonlinear loads than usual. To enhance its performance, it is therefore necessary to limit these disturbanc esand minimize the problems with the power quality. FACTS, or Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System, are essential for improving the control and power handling of AC distribution systems. The newest technology, the static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), which is one of the fact family with shunt compensators can maintain voltage during network fault, enhancing short term voltage stability, can provide power factor correction, reactive power control and power quality improvement of distribution lines. In this study, Flexible AC transmission devices (FACTS) called STATCOM were proposed to improve the power quality issues like poor power factor and current unbalance. Distribution network was used and Matlab/Simulink software was used to model the network. It was seen that the use of STATCOM improves the power factor as main power quality issue to 0.96 and total harmonic distortion is improved by 8.37%. The results of simulation validates the performance of STATCOM in improving the power quality. en_US
