dc.description.abstract Introduction: Kibagabaga Hospital serves as a District Hospital for Gasabo found in the City of Kigali. It is surrounded by 17 health centres which it serves. The number of deliveries normally outskips the available resources and this affects the quality of health care offered. A study focusing on Stillbirth may more easily identify factors that aid in prevention, enabling intervention and better quality of intrapartum care [7, 12], thus lowering the high perinatal mortality. Objective: The general objective of the study was to identify the risk factors associated with Stillbirths in Kibagabaga District Hospital, in City of Kigali. Method: Study design: Matched Case Control study [The cases and Controls were matched for age, parity and mode of delivery]. Study Site; Kibagabaga District Hospital, Gasabo District, in the city of Kigali in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics.Study Population; Mothers who delivered in Kibagabaga Hospital, Gasabo District, in City of Kigali Participants; Cases were Mothers who delivered Stillbirths during the study period. Controls were mothers who delivered health babies with Apgar score ≥8 at 5minutes after the case. The cases and the controls lie within the same age, parity block and had the same mode of delivery. The ratio of cases to controls was 1:2.Study Variables were: Socio-demographic characteristics, obstetric performance [past &present], maternal medical conditions, Referral status. The Odds ratio [OR] for varius variables were calculated using statistical package for social sciences [SPSS] and presented with their 95% confidence interval[CI] and P-values. A total of 130 cases and 260 controls were analysed. Results: The major risk factors associated with SB were: referral status (p < 0.001), complications of labor p<0.05 [mainly obstructed labor, cord prolapsed, prolonged labor, febrile illnesses and pre-eclampsia].Gestational age and the delay in seeking health care p<0.05, No TORCH screening p<0.05 and low level of education p<0.05. Conclusion: The quality of care showed deficiencies on mothers using Mutuel de la santé [MUSA]. Greater attention thus needs to be given the strategies that focus on improving the quality of Obstetrical care provided at Kibagabaga hospital and the Health centres that the hospital serves. en_US
