Abstract:
As Rwanda develops, industrial sector improves day to day, from which the basic waste products get released after production. Waste will undergo substantial growth in the future based on expected population growth and industrialization. The majority of solid waste collected in rural areas is centrally deposited everywhere without control, but some of them may be used as source of energy, even others may be recyclable into new secondary products to minimize the impacts caused by them. They have positive and negative impacts in the different areas to the environment and population. Despite of those impacts, human beings need safe life as well as modernization. Therefore, regulations need to be set up to guide investors to have and adopt conservation culture of wastes and fumes which are mainly the sources of many negative impacts to the environment around the areas in which industrial zones are located, as well as to the areas where those wastes pass through. In regards to this, atmosphere is also concerned as they are source of global warming and green houses emissions. Because of a very limited time to conduct a research, only samples of a pit and underground water tank for special economic zone were designed. A sample pit of 949,677.3m3was designed for almost all industries in SEZ and according to the data collected from three industries in SEZ; the underground water tank of 1246.96m3 was made for six industries only. For improved water treatment and fumes neutralization systems design, there is a need of a deep follow up research for a specific site. Therefore, industrial sector needs communal pits for solid wastes deposing in order to protect the environment degradation. Also there will be an increase of revenues from those wastes through improved systems of waste recycling and water treatment. All those will help to have a good health for humans and safe environment.
