Abstract:
The general objective of this study is to elucidate the influence of ―Ndi Umunyarwanda‖
Program in reducing genocide ideology among Rwandan citizens while the following were
specific objectives: to find out the perceptions of respondents on the program of Ndi
Umunyarwanda program‖, to examine the opinions of respondents on indicators reduction of
genocide ideology among Rwandan citizens, to find out whether Ndi Umunyarwanda Program
accelerated the reduction of genocide ideology among Rwandan citizens. Different methods and
techniques were used to reach those objectives where the questionnaire and interview were
conducted for collecting data. The sample in this study was purposive where 40 people
participated in this study from Nyamirambo sector. After data cleaning and analysis with the
help of SPSS Version 22, the following were found: First of all the study revealed that the
program is well perceived by those who have involved in it regarding different elements that
were used for evaluating it. The program was lowly criticized by not being perceived with the
majority of Rwandans considering, being taught by professional people who look for the
interests of Rwandans. Secondly it was found that the ideology of genocide is gradually
decreasing but some problem related to the influence of parents while young people are open to
marry and mutually support fellow Rwandans without being influenced by their group identity.
Lastly the study revealed that Ndi Umunyaranda Program completed other exiting programs that
were initiated to combat genocide ideology and reconciliation in Rwanda. In particular the
program helped people who committed genocide and those who feel that they can do something
to ask for pardon to do that openly and accelerated the level of forgiveness from genocide
survivors.
