Abstract:
The work done on the design and development Internet of Things (IoT) based Smart Medicine Reminder system for the elderly people in Rwanda; Presently, the obstacles the elderly people face in Rwanda include failing to take their medications on schedule, which hurts their health, especially for the people of chronic diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, breathing difficulties, heart troubles, and cancer. The present study suggests designing an IOT-based smart medicine reminder system for elderly people to address the highlighted challenges. The suggested solution uses an IoT-enabled medication reminder system to notify the patients when it is time to take the medications. The system is composed of an infrared sensor, RTC module, GSM module, Push buttons, Arduino Mega2560 as Microcontroller, LCD display, buzzer, NodeMCU module, and mobile phone. By using the GSM module, the system can send an SMS alert to the caregiver or family member about the medicine taken or missed. The Thingspeak cloud stores and analyzes all data from the microcontroller using the NodeMCU module. By using the WIFI module the caregivers or family members who have access to the cloud can access the data from the cloud about medicine that has been taken or has been missed. The system is low cost, low power consumption, simple circuit, and high efficiency. It reminds elderly patients to take their medication on real time
