dc.description.abstractThis study proposes a model that determines the optimal current in transmission and distribution lines while taking into account load demand. The optimal current is determined for power losses minimization in transmission lines during the highest load demand hours. This problem is formulated as a quadratically constrained quadratic problem and solved using Quadratic Constrained Quadratic Program (QCQP) solver. NURU power plant in Goma has been taken as a case study to demonstrate the effectiveness of the power losses optimization model developed. The technique consisted of controlling the current to be maintained at its optimal level through the transmission lines, considering the power at the distribution side and the power generated. The results show that the optimization model developed in this study reduces peak hours power losses by 77%.en_US
