The questionnaires for trainees, interview for school leaders and focus group discussion for selected trainees were used towards answering the research questions and achieving the objectives of the study. Pilot study was conducted for testing the questionnaire and ensure that they were valid and reliable. The testing was done on 10 trainees and 5 trainers. Interview pre-test was done on 5 school leaders from different TVET School and ESSA Nyarugunga was not involved in pre-testing of research instruments. The same research instruments were used to collect the data. The sample size was 146 involving 142 trainees and 4 school leaders of ESSA Nyarugunga TVET School, Kicukiro District.
In addition, 4 trainees were interviewed by using Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). After data collection, the data were analyzed in quantitative by using inferential statistics and qualitative where descriptive statistics are used in order to make a sense of data collected from ESSA Nyarugunga TVET School. Computer spreadsheets (SPSS) were used to analyze the responses to the questionnaires. On the basis of the data collected and interpreted, a number of findings and conclusions were made and presented. A good number of respondents agreed on the transformational school leadership has a vital role on prevention of early teenager’s pregnancies.
It was revealed in this study that the transformational school leadership influences teenagers’ pregnancy positively with a low significance (0.00) while intervening variables (causes of teenagers’ pregnancy and absence of information related to SRH) influence teenagers’ pregnancy negatively at a low significance of 0.007 and 0.000. It means that school leadership can play a role in dealing with issues of Teenagers’ pregnancy but it is not the main cause of the increase in the cases of pregnancy. Therefore, school leaders are recommended to implement the transformational school leadership model for reducing the cases of early pregnancy. Suggestions for further research on this topic were also made |
